Our Story

The Gibson/Gipson family legacy begins with George and Lavinia (Colter) Gibson of Orangeburg, South Carolina. From their union came five children who would go on to establish branches of the family across many states and generations. Over time, some descendants adopted an alternate spelling of the family name, Gipson, but regardless of spelling, we all share the same proud lineage and roots.

Today, the Gibson/Gipson family continues to grow and thrive through descendants living throughout the United States, including Connecticut, New Jersey, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Texas. Although distance may separate us, our shared heritage continues to unite us.

Our oldest living family member is our beloved matriarch, Ruby Gibson, whose life reflects the strength, resilience, and enduring love that have carried this family through generations.

Family reunions have become a cherished tradition that allow us to reconnect, celebrate our history, and strengthen the bonds that tie us together. In recent years, the Gibson/Gipson family has gathered for reunions in 2017 in South Carolina, 2019 in Florida, and 2025 again in South Carolina. We now look forward with excitement to continuing this tradition at the 2026 reunion in Atlanta, Georgia.

Each reunion reminds us that family is more than a name or location. It is a shared history, a lasting legacy, and a connection that continues to grow stronger with every generation.

No matter where we live or how our name is spelled, we remain one family rooted in love, heritage, and unity.

Together we honor the past, celebrate the present, and build a legacy for the generations still to come.
